Formed in 1976, we have rapidly developed a reputation as one of the Isle of Man's leading litigation practices. Founder and Senior Partner, Alan Gough's "wonderful court room presence"1, together with a tenacity that is tempered by a sound commercial grasp, rapidly propelled the Firm to the very top in this area. Since then, we have expanded both organically and through a series of high level strategic recruitments, resulting in a boutique organisation with exceptional expertise in the core areas of our practice.

Our international experience of asset tracing is well known and we have been actively involved in the tracing, arrest and repatriation of several hundred million US Dollars of clients' funds in the past five years alone. In addition, our Insolvency and Restructuring Team is highly experienced and members of our team have acted on some of the world's largest corporate bankruptcy cases of recent years.

Led by Paul Kerruish, our Corporate Department has expertise in a wide variety of practice areas, including banking and finance, insurance, mutual funds, Intellectual property, e-business/e-gaming, aviation and shipping, employment, corporate, commercial, mergers and acquisitions.

Our Private Client Department specialises in all kinds of trust work, together with wills and probate. We have particular expertise in the area of charities, having recently established the Isle of Man's first charitable foundation.

Working closely with our Corporate Department, our Property Department acts for many leading corporations, in particular residential and commercial property developers. We also handle high-value residential conveyancing, often for existing clients of our Private Client Department.

To assist in providing the best possible services to our international clients, the Firm has various members who have a working knowledge of foreign languages, including Spanish and French.

With effect from 1 June 2009, GOUGH advocates became an incorporated legal practice registered in the Isle of Man under company number 123397C.
